What's My New Normal?

What's My New Normal?

The silence has been deafening.

The silence has been deafening.

For fifty years, there was always another person in the house. Maybe we weren't talking. Maybe we were arguing. Maybe we were simply passing each other in the hallway. But there was another heartbeat. Another car in the driveway. Another toothbrush on the counter.

Now?

It's quiet.

Too quiet.

I never imagined that silence could make so much noise.

Everyone tells you to "embrace your next chapter."

That's easy to say when you're not eating dinner alone.

When Alexa has become your most reliable conversation.

When the highlight of your afternoon is the dog looking up at you because he heard a squirrel.

This isn't just about being single.

It's about waking up one morning and realizing you have absolutely no idea what your new normal is supposed to look like.

Do I stay in Chicago?

Do I move to Southwest Florida?

Should I choose Estero?

Marco Island?

Naples?

Sarasota?

Do I throw caution to the wind and become an expat somewhere warm where nobody knows my story?

Every possibility sounds exciting...

...until it's time to sign a lease.

Then suddenly every choice feels permanent.

And terrifying.

Friends tell me to download another dating app.

Absolutely not.

I've been ghosted.

Catfished.

Matched with people who looked nothing like their photos.

People looking for pen pals.

People looking for therapists.

People looking for someone twenty years younger.

I'm exhausted.

The apps don't make me feel hopeful.

They make me feel disposable.

Then someone says...

"Why don't you hire a matchmaker?"

Honestly?

That depends.

I've spent my career around matchmaking.

I've seen the television versions.

The flashy promises.

The luxury branding.

The expensive dinners.

But if I ever hired a matchmaker myself, I wouldn't just want introductions.

I'd want someone who actually gets me.

Someone who understands that after decades with the same person, dating isn't just awkward.

It's grief.

It's identity.

It's wondering whether you even remember how to flirt.

It's worrying about walking into a restaurant alone.

It's questioning whether you're too old to start over.

I'd want a luxury matchmaker who understood that concierge matchmaking isn't just about finding chemistry.

It's about rebuilding confidence.

Maybe she reminds me what to wear.

Maybe she drives me to my first date because my nerves are shot.

Maybe she says, "You're going to be fine."

Maybe she laughs with me afterward over coffee if it was awful.

Maybe she celebrates if it wasn't.

That's not just matchmaking.

That's having someone in your corner.

Because loneliness isn't always solved by finding love.

Sometimes it's solved by feeling understood.

Maybe that's what so many of us are really looking for.

Not another app.

Not another algorithm.

Not another profile.

We're looking for a guide.

Someone who understands that this isn't simply dating after divorce or dating after losing a spouse.

It's learning how to build an entirely new life.

A new normal.

If you're reading this from Chicago...

Or Naples.

Or Estero.

Or Marco Island.

Or Sarasota.

Or anywhere in between...

...and you're quietly asking yourself the very same question—

"What am I supposed to do now?"

You're not the only one.

Maybe the next chapter doesn't begin with knowing exactly where you'll live.

Maybe it begins with finding people who make wherever you are feel a little less lonely.

And maybe the right luxury matchmaker doesn't just introduce you to someone new.

Maybe she helps introduce you...to yourself again.
